ATHENS reflections on a long visit

t

After having lived in Athens for decades, I returned after a long hiatus about 5 years ago, and was immediately at home. I will be publishing an article here I wrote for Delta's SKY magazine decades ago, but for now a reflection on returning to somewhere you were happy is good for anybody.

My daughter and her family still come to Greece to their seaside home on Evia and this year as last year, we worry about the wildfire damage it has done to such a lovely country. Fortunately so far, the fires haven't raged near them so they will still enjoy their annual sojourn, but it seems that Greece among many nations, is in line for these recurring evnts. I think Climate Change is making us all warmr, but our lack of paying attention to the fact that this is the only planet we have to live on right now, is just as much to blame. We have to take care of where we live.

In the article I will publish soon, it will have a walking tour around the Acropolis area (encompassing the Parthenon and Plaka), and you can be persuaded that a visit there will enliven your soul. especially when you consider how long ago it all came into being, and how it was built.

It's almost back to normal there now, the raging fires have decreased and all the brave men and women who fought those flames should be lauded as brave and strong.

To visit Greece is an education and a great pleasure. Enjoy. Go there.
